I installed one of these a year ago. To be honest, it was a nightmare.
The chasis was scratch damaged. In fact, we had 4 for 4 SI damaged. Luckily, it was on a non visible surface.
The instructions inside were for surface mounting. It was a random assortment of parts that made no sense. At the time, SI did not have the flush mount instructions on their website. So we had to wait for emails from customer service / engineering.
Those arent RJ45 jack in the side. Oh no, you need RJ11. Why are there two? Which do you plug the keypad into. They aren't labeled.
By the way, even if you are automating this the Keypad is necessary for installation.
So we cut open and reinforce the ceiling and mount this monster. That was the easy part.
The bombay doors do not install easily. It is nearly impossible to get your hands in and attach the extremely tight rubber bands that pull the door closed when the screen is raised. This is especially true for the back ones. I assume your screen is going to be very close to the wall so forget getting a ladder in their easily.
NOISY. This this is loud. When the bombay does close, it is a loud clang. When they open, it is a less loud clang. Back to tech support. None of their suggestions work, it is just a loud screen. And SLOW.
And the bombay doors don't close all of the way. This is evident even in the picture that is posted in the first posts. We finally installed the little hooks that hold the rubber bands backward (IIRC) so that they would pull the bombay doors fully closed. This added more noise.
The only thing good about this screen? It looks amazing. Now I'd like to think I am more than competent CI, but I certainly felt like I was beta testing SI installation manual and screen. Maybe your experience was different.

Jonathan, a word of warning with the SI screen. I got a call a few days ago from our client with the screen pictured above. It is stuck half way down. We went on site to troubleshoot. The client or my guys threw away the wall control, so I had to order one to do any testing with tech support.
Got it in today and went back out. Still was not working. Upon further inspection, the hot lead was loose in the connector for power, it ended up pulling right out. We didn't have any on the truck so had to run out to get some more. Once we got that reconnected and applied power, still no go.
Tech support said that we can remove the cable that feeds the circuit board and plug directly into the wall switch to test. To do that you have to unscrew 6 screws on the outer casing of the can. Problem, it is not accessible. To do so requires removing the screen. They are sending us a board and a motor with a return label (only ground shipping though).
This is the part that gets me. We asked if there is a manual override so we can lower the screen so he can watch it in the meantime. She had to check on this (she is the designated motorized tech expert). In order to lower the screen, we would again have to remove some screws, and then move a "star thing" half way out and turn... Bottom line is you have to remove the screen from the ceiling unless you have adequate space in an attic above, which we did not. I was a bit surprised that there is no manual override. So without a third person there to ensure we do not screw up the material while lowering the screen from the ceiling, we ended up leaving him with a screen that is stuck half open until, AT BEST, mid next week. I am going to have difficulty getting over there with a large project going on to boot.
Just thought I'd fill you in on our sole experience with SI thus far. BTW, screen is 4 months old.

Just updating. Its been 10 days since I posted about my last time out with this SI screen. We have been waiting on the parts. STILL have not received them. Called up yesterday and the person we spoke with left for the day already. The person I spoke with looked for info to find out where the parts are. He could not find ANY info. It appears that the parts never even shipped. Since it was past their shipping cutoff yesterday, he could not send out the parts.
As it stands, we have to wait until Monday to even find out if the parts shipped, and if not, then send them out.
So for those bitching about Snap here and on IP, cut them some slack. They may be having their own QC issues, not denying that, but at least they get you replacements quick when needed. Right now we are sitting on a $4000 4 month old screen and after 10 days don't even know if the parts were sent. First AND LAST Screen Innovations screen for us!!!!

That's crazy. Sounds a lot like many other reputable companies that just can't get right.
Well dude put that job on hold for te time being. Don't understand why the can just make the screen like any other motorized screen.
Skip the fancy give me the functional.

Skip the fancy give me the functional. The client has been without his screen now for over 3 weeks total. It is the only TV he has in the house, and to make matters worse, he is from Argentina and is a big soccer fan. So no World Cup for him on his 100" screen (or any TV for that matter)

Called this morning and spoke to the woman I spoke with almost two weeks ago now. She essentially said "my bad" in her own words. Never sent the parts. SUPPOSEDLY they are sending them next day. I'll believe it when I have the parts in my hand.
Bruce, I'm surprised myself. This client was a little difficult during this installation and there was some tension. So I am VERY surprised actually.

Bruce, I'm surprised myself. This client was a little difficult during this installation and there was some tension. So I am VERY surprised actually. Just did a motorized 110 BD. Knowing the challenges that happened last time, I pulled out the instructions emailed to us a year ago and the new instructions out of the screen box, which actually had a "2.0" label on it. It appears the only difference were slightly higher DPI pictures, which still resulted in calls to tech support, as the pics were still too small to read. In particular, mounting depth to account for drywall thickness so that it is flush. We have only installed the case for now. In a few weeks, when we complete the install, I will report back if all the parts and accessories are there. I will tell you, like all the others, the case of the screen was scratched right out of the box. Again. Also, the box was so heavy, that the cardboard shipping box literally split in two under its own weight. Luckily, the break point as the last 12 inches where the red accessory box is (badly) placed. The screen did not sustain any damage or scratches because of the box splitting, but it was alarming to see it happen.

Why not use the Stewart light rejecting material screens instead of hassling with the SI nightmare? The Stewart is a Breeze for one person to install and looks great with a bright projector.
